The Victoria House

Our Story

How It Began

Victoria House has always been part of our story. Built in 1921 by my great-grandmother, Victoria, as a boarding house, this home has remained in our family for generations. As downtown Sevierville began to come alive again, my father and I felt a pull to breathe new life into this piece of family history.

Watching downtown Sevierville begin to thrive again brought back memories of visiting shops with my grandmother as a child. Seeing new life return to the streets made us realize this house still had a purpose — and that its next chapter was waiting to be written.

Each suite was carefully reimagined with its own Tennessee-inspired theme, blending vintage finds, restored furniture, and bold color. I spent hours learning how to repair and refinish pieces by hand, choosing every detail with intention so the home would feel both nostalgic and welcoming.

We share Victoria House to continue the welcoming spirit my great-grandmother created — a place where travelers feel cared for, connected, and part of something meaningful, just as her boarders once did.

Meet Mum-Mum

Namesake of Victoria House, Boarding House Founder

Victoria Wade — known lovingly as “Mum-Mum” — was a determined and independent woman who built the original boarding house on Joy Street in 1921. A single mother and businesswoman ahead of her time, she welcomed travelers into her home while also working alongside her family at Wade’s Department Store for decades. She was known for her humor, generosity, and strong sense of community — the kind of person who made people feel cared for the moment they walked through the door. Her welcoming spirit remains the heart of Victoria House today.

Victoria House carries her name to honor the woman who built this home and opened its doors to travelers more than a century ago — a legacy of hospitality that continues to shape every stay today.

Meet Alexis Guinda

Granddaughter of Victoria, Visionary behind Victoria House

Alexis grew up surrounded by the stories of Victoria House, watching generations of her family care for the home and the travelers who stayed here. As a local realtor and dedicated supporter of area arts and community programs, she has developed a deep understanding of Sevierville — its people, its history, and its revival. Drawing on her love of restoration and storytelling, Alexis personally restored furniture, selected meaningful details, and shaped each suite to reflect Tennessee’s culture and character.
